Crew: Those who are crazy enough to come aboard and help get this little fat ship a little further along on her journey south. For just one day, or from start to finish, we love them all!
CURRENT CREW
Hank Holiday – Skipper / Captain
Age: 27
Sailing Experience: None prior to Scooter
Role: Cook, Knot Nerd, Captain, Husband
Spirit Animal: Seahorse
About: My two engineering degrees didn’t teach me enough about driving trains so I quit. Also I couldn’t handle the hot, humid climate of Cincinnati, so I moved onto a hotter, more humid hull of a sailboat. My favorite thing to do is cook so I figured removing the amenities of a normal kitchen like appliances and flat, stationary surfaces are good ways to hone my skills. A few things on my bucket list are: live in a tiny home, go on grand adventures, travel more, go off-grid, learn to tie knots, and live outside the US… so here’s to many birds and one stone named Scooter.
To the Ney-Sayers: Venmo us for a 6 pack, and we’ll give you an hour of our undivided attention to convince you why this is the best idea anyone’s ever had.
Taylor Holiday – Skipper / Navigator
Age: 24
Sailing Experience: Sailed once on a tiny boat and got 4th in a race in Longmont, CO.
Role: Navigator, Positivity Enforcer, Seal/Whale Spotter, Crab Lover, Jellyfish Bonker, Wife
Spirit Animal: Sea Otter
About: I ran track for Montana State and met my Hunk of a Husband because Joe convinced Hank to take me on a date (thanks Joe). Now I’ve convinced Hank the hunk to say goodbye to the midwest, and go on a sail… A really really long sail! I love pretty much everything except mean people and fried okra. I’m so flippin excited to be here and I can’t even wait for all the fun awesome crazy experiences to come!!!
To the Ney-Sayers: Everyone think’s we’re crazy for going on this adventure, but everyone has thought I was crazy for pretty much everything fun I’ve ever done and I’m still here so nanny nanny!
Captain Eunice – Adventure Kitten
Age: 5 months
Sailing Experience: Nothing before Scooter
Role: Cuteness Provider, Professional Distractor, Bug Catcher, Snuggler
Spirit Animal: Clownfish
About: Taylor and Hank’s Aunt Anita rescued Eunice and her brothers when her barn cat mom, Muffin, abandoned them at birth. After having to keep them alive for the first few days of life, it only makes sense to take it up a notch and try keeping her alive on a boat! She loves to play, explore, and adventure just like everyone else on the boat, so she fits in with the crew perfectly.
To the Ney-Sayers: A weird amount of sailors have live-aboard cats, so Eunice fits right in! Plus cats are surprisingly great at swimming, and if she falls in she can climb a rope or a towel with her claws to get back in. And she even has a tiny cute life jacket.
SEATTLE TO SAN FRANSISCO 2020 CREW
Joe Tregoning – Skipper / 1st Mate
Age: 27 years young
Sailing Experience: Zero before Scooter
Role: Expeditioner, Pyrate, Mechanic, Getter-done guy
Spirit Animal: Sea Lion
About: I’m just your average mechanically inclined fella with more ambition than common sense. I have an unhealthy obsession with Mexican food. I’m married to a beautiful woman who keeps me grounded. I talk to myself when I need expert advice. I used to work as an engineer until my imagination got the best of me. I now fancy myself more of a dirty gypsy pyrate sailor in search of culture and a simpler way of life.
To the Ney-Sayers: I never was very good at taking advice. Come sail with us and see how awesome it is!
Nelson VanTassel – Seaman
Age: 28 years of absolute ridiculousness!
Sailing Experience: I can sail a Hobie Cat full of libations and another human to small islands in the Caribbean? So pretty much a pro…
Role: Hype master fresh! Montana Hospitality! Boats medical provider. Sous chef to hank?
Spirit Animal: Manta Ray
About: Total ski bum with a burning desire to sail. Did that whole college thing, took 5.5 years, and eventually finished at Colorado State University in December ‘16 with a premed degree, still haven’t used said degree, except now as our boat EMT. Moved to Montana to play my heart out and been making it work since. Currently a ski patroller and taking every opportunity that comes my way. I either take myself way too seriously or not at all. Learning to find balance in life so might as well jump on a fricken boat!
Joe and Taylor met Nelson on accident when their car broke down at a YoungLife backpacking training camp in 2014. Best accident ever because now fast forward and Nelson and Joe are great friends, and Joe convinced Nelson to come on our trip and be our 4th crewmate! Thanks Joe for being able to convince anyone to do anything. Nelson is only 1 week in and has already crushed it on one of the most difficult passages a sailor can do. Talk about a BA go-getter.
To the Ney-Sayers: I haven’t died yet… With a kitten as captain, what is the worst that can happen?
2019 CREW
Hannah Tregoning – Skipper
Age: 26
Sailing Experience: Only what we’ve learned with Scooter!
Role: Animal management, pet hair removal expert, voice of reason
Spirit Animal: Starfish
About: I said yes to to a life with the adventure seeker above (Joe) and am now figuring out how to live aboard a 32 foot hole in the water with my three best friends and favorite land seal, Max. If you would have asked me 3 years ago what I thought I would be doing with my life, this is not it, but man am I excited for all the little moments within this grand adventure. I love seeing new places, the comfort of home, hiking, the sounds of rain while reading; mostly I love having my land seal around for cuddles.
To the Ney-Sayers: No matter how long this adventure lasts, it sure is better than working a job I don’t have any passion for. Come join us and see for yourself!
Max – Adventure Pup/Guard Dog
Age: 3.75
Sailing Experience: love sitting on the boat, hate waves
Role: morale booster, land seeker, home security system, Chief Executive Cuddler (CEC)
Spirit Animal: Seal
About: Apparently we live in a bathtub now… still not sure how I feel about it. The land adventures are my favorite and guests have to win me over before they are allowed on board. My favorite activities are chasing the ball, attempting failing to kill flies, and sun bathing on the deck while the humans pull on lines and turn a big wheel.
To the Ney-Sayers: Every boat needs a Land Seal. If you disagree you’re wrong.

Nate dog has been our adventure buddy since 2013 when we met and within 3 hours, we left together for a week long roadtrip. A year later we did it again, and took him on another week long roadtrip through Utah.
