Scooter

This page is about the boat itself! If you want to see Stats, History, etc, Keep reading!

Scooter is the name of our sailboat but she is so much more than that. She is a 1989 Hunter Vision 32 and she has a personality all her own. Scooter is wider around the middle than your average 32′ sailboat which makes her salon and berths very comfortable.

Look for a blog post about the time we let this halyard run clear to the top and had to climb up there to get it back down!

Perhaps the most unique feature of Scooter is her freestanding mast; reaching nearly 55 feet into the air with a diameter like a tree trunk, definitely makes us stand out at the marina or in any anchorage. These features of Scooter make her undesirable to the Puget Sound weekend racer, and that allowed us to pick her up for way less than market value. Now, for as long as we can manage it, we are going to take Scooter as far south as we can with high hopes of making it all the way to Ushuaia, Argentina. She may be a little girthy, and a tad bit slower than the other boats out there, but Scooter is our home now and we could not be happier if we tried.

See! Look how happy we all are!

For those nerds out there who are jonesing to know the technical specs, we got you too.

Layout of the boat. Not my photo!

The Hunter Vision 32 is a small recreational keelboat, built predominantly of fiberglass. It has a free-standing fractional sloop rig, an internally-mounted spade-type rudder and a fixed fin keel. It displaces 11,400 lb (5,171 kg) and carries 4,500 lb (2,041 kg) of ballast. The boat has a draft of 4.25 ft (1.30 m) with the standard wing keel. The boat is fitted with a Japanese Yanmar 3GM diesel engine of 27hp (20kW). The fuel tank holds 22 U.S. gallons (83 L; 18 imp gal) and the fresh water tank has a capacity of 45 U.S. gallons (170 L; 37 imp gal).
